The San Fernando Valley has been hit by a wave of brazen thefts and robberies over the past three months, prompting local law enforcement to seek public assistance in their ongoing investigations.
ATM Heists
A series of daring ATM thefts has left local businesses reeling. Between August 16 and October 16, multiple liquor stores in the Mission Hills and West Valley areas fell victim to a group of thieves who employed a shocking method to steal cash machines.
The suspects' modus operandi involved forcibly entering the stores, typically in the early morning hours, and using chains attached to vehicles to rip ATMs from their foundations. Once removed, the machines were loaded into getaway vehicles and later discarded after the cash was extracted.
One such incident, captured on security footage at Village Market & Liquor in Sylmar, showed two individuals in dark clothing using a white SUV to pull out metal security doors before prying open the glass entrance and chaining the ATM to their vehicle.
Following extensive investigation, police executed search warrants on October 16 in Sylmar and Canyon Country, leading to the arrest of four suspects: Anthony Cacho, Stephany Gonzalez-Jimenez, Richard Nevarez, and Luis Angel Rodriguez-Arroyo. The suspects face multiple felony charges, including conspiracy to commit burglary and commercial burglary.
Taco Truck Targeting
In a separate but equally concerning case, a series of armed robberies targeting taco truck workers and a 7-Eleven store has left the community on edge. Between September 8 and 21, eight robberies were reported across North Hollywood, Foothill, Mission Hills, and Van Nuys.
The suspect, now identified as Jesus Garcia-Sotelo, allegedly brandished a firearm during these incidents, primarily targeting food truck workers and stealing undisclosed amounts of cash. Security camera footage played a crucial role in identifying the suspect.
On October 16, police arrested Garcia-Sotelo during a search warrant execution in Mission Hills. Authorities seized a vehicle and clothing believed to have been used in all eight robberies. Garcia-Sotelo now faces multiple charges, including robbery with a handgun, attempted robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon.
Community Involvement Sought
As investigations continue, law enforcement officials are urging the public to come forward with any information that may assist in identifying additional victims or suspects. Those with relevant information are encouraged to contact the LAPD at (818) 838-9810, or submit anonymous tips at (800) 222-8477.
The recent arrests mark significant progress in addressing these crimes, but police remain vigilant in their efforts to ensure the safety and security of San Fernando Valley residents and businesses.
