Riverside woman kills father in drunken driving accident

Just as the world was preparing for Father's Day celebrations, a California woman killed her own father in an alleged drunken driving accident, Riverside police confirmed.

Soukvilay Barton, 37, ran over and killed her 69-year-old father Bounmy Rajsombath on Friday afternoon as he was pleading her not to driver drunk in a BMW convertible. The appalling incident took place at a home in Riverside, east of Los Angeles.

A police official said Barton had allegedly been quarrelling with her family members and drinking before getting into her BMW Z4 convertible. In an effort to keep her daughter from driving, Rajsombath stood in the driveway and the car ran over him. He was rushed to the Riverside Community Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Local media reported that Rajsombath had once worked for the Laos government, helping the U. S. during the Vietnam War. He had arrived in the U. S. in the late 1970's with his wife.

His son-in-law revealed that Rajsombath had been employed as a plumber until a decade ago, when he accidently hurt one of his arms. However, he continued doing plumbing work free of cost for the poor.

Barton, a twice-married woman with a handful of court dockets to her name, has been held on a $75,000 bond. She didn't reveal whether she hired a lawyer. She faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol.
