President Obama’s four-day vacation in California
U. S. President Barack Obama enjoyed a long Father's Day weekend in California with his wife Michelle Obama and older daughter Malia Ann Obama.
President Obama's visit to the desert resort area of Palm Springs in the Golden State is said to be one of the ways that the President has been trying to escape the `captivity' in the White House.
Speaking about Obama's visit, his friend and senior adviser Valerie Jarrett said, "I think frankly we've all been through a cold and bitter winter and the bear has cabin fever. His cabin is a little bit bigger and harder to escape than most."
In the morning, Mr. Obama worked out at a gym near the Rancho Mirage hilltop home, where the first family was staying. White House decorator Michael Smith and James Costos, the U. S. ambassador to Spain, are also with him.
The Rancho Mirage home is equipped with a private tennis court and trapezoid swimming pool, alongside will all of the modern-day amenities. Despite high temperatures, Mr. Obama played golf at the nearby Sunnylands estate and the Porcupine Creek Estate. Both courses are owned by software billionaire Larry Ellison.
President Obama mixed his four-day vacation together with his official duties, including a speech on climate change, Democratic Party fundraising, and discussions with his national security adviser about military options to stop Iraq's violent rebellion.
So far this year, the President has spent three weekends in a golf-friendly place on the links in Hawaii. The Obama family is said to be planning a two-week summer vacation to Martha's Vineyard in August this year.
