Fox Television Studios’ ‘Graceland’ brings Southern California to Florida
South Floridians are often confused when a TV series set in their region, such as "CSI: Miami," is in fact filmed in California. The reverse is true for the USA Network's series "Graceland," which feature some federal law enforcement agencies living in beach house Graceland in Southern California, but the show has in fact been filmed in the Fort Lauderdale area.
Produced by Fox Television Studios, Graceland has been filmed in South Florida. The show follows a group of six secret agents from many federal law enforcement agencies.
Producers say that the combination of existing production infrastructure, state tax incentives makes replicating Southern California in South Florida a good economic sense.
Russell Fine, the show's director, said, "We get more for our money in terms of our production budget. There are a couple of large trash mounds - landfills - that we've actually used in the background when we needed a hill."
Both South Florida and Southern California have palm trees, but producers have to avoid the more jungle-like characteristics of Florida while replicating. Producers say that there are many similarities between South Florida and Southern California but everything doesn't match.
For instance, the tropical climate of South Florida is not a perfect match of the Mediterranean climate of Southern California.
Graceland features actress Serinda Swan, who plays DEA Agent Paige Arkin, along with many other actors like Aaron Tveit, Vanessa Ferlito, Brandon Jay McLaren, and Manny Montana.
