Dog poop bag fracas forces San Marino Mayor to resign
Bowing to severe condemnation and threats of a lawsuit over tossing a plastic bag of dog waste into a neighbor's yard, San Marino City Mayor Dennis Kneier stepped down on Tuesday.
Kneier flung dog poop onto the property of his political opponent, Philip Lao, and the act was caught on surveillance camera. Video of the act went viral. Residents severely condemned the act, saying Kneier smeared their image.
He admitted that his act was "insensitive, disrespectful and wrong," and assured that he would never do something like that again.
After stepping down from the post, he said, "I can understand why this matter has some questioning my ability to lead the council. I want to assure you that something like this will not happen again."
Kneier also admitted that the incident embarrassed him as well as San Marino City. It was not the first irresponsible incident by Kneier. Around a week ago, he was charged with Littering, a breach of Penal Code 374.4, for which he could be slapped with a fine of $250 plus court administrative fees.
San Marino, a town located just south of Pasadena, has a population of around 13,000 people. In 2010, Forbes Magazine ranked the town as the 63rd most expensive area in the U. S.
