California T expected to become Ferrari’s new top seller
The Ferrari California T has a great potential to become the company's most-popular and top-selling model, a top executive of the renowned luxury maker said.
Available with a starting price tag of $409,880, the Ferrari California T is the most affordable car introduced by the Italian sports car maker in almost a decade. The Ferrari 360 Modena's price had slipped below $409K in 2005, when the company had offered a discount on it, bringing its price down to $369,500.
Herbert Appleroth, president and chief executive of Ferrari's Austral-Asia business, said, "There's a good chance it will be the biggest selling Ferrari ever. Already the popularity is overwhelming."
The California T boasts a new body and a new twin turbocharged engine. Appleroth said it is stylish but not ostentatious.
It is powered by a 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, which produces 412kW of power, notably up from 338kW of the 4.3-litre non-turbo V8 engine of its immediate predecessor. Torque has been increased to 755Nm, 56 per cent up from 485Nm.
There is also seven-speed twin clutch automatic gearbox, which allows the driver to sprint the four-seat car from zero to 100km/h in merely 3.6 seconds. It has a top speed of 316km/h.
So far this year, Ferrari's sales are down 26 per cent year-on-year, but the arrival of the California T is expected to provide a significant boost to sales in the coming months. By the end of this month, the company expected a twelve-month waiting list for the Ferrari California T.
