Amazon likely to unveil its much-rumored smartphone at a Wednesday event in Seattle

According to reports, online retail giant Amazon is set to officially announce its much-rumored smartphone project at a Wednesday event in Seattle, where the company is expected to unveil its cool new smartphone which will boast a 3D display.

The decision to launch its own handset underscores an intelligent strategy by Amazon, as the phone will help the online retailer to close any remaining gap between the impulse to purchase and the completed transaction.

The launch of a smartphone will underscore the most crucial and the final link in Amazon's mammoth enterprise. The company, over the last few years, has already invested billions of dollars on different fronts, including construction of warehouses all over the US for delivering goods as fast as possible.

In addition, Amazon has developed diverse devices such as tablets and set-top boxes; and has created and licensed entertainment for effectively stocking up its devices.

Despite the fact that the biggest of tech firms can have trouble with smartphones, Amazon apparently has notable advantages over some of the other smartphone vendors. The company can sell its smartphone to its 250 million customers without a middleman; and can also package the handset's features with the Amazon Prime membership club, similar to what it did last week with a new streaming music service.
