Republican candidate for AG calls for pot legalization
Ron Gold, a Republican candidate for attorney general (AG), has call-for California to legalize pot not only medical marijuana but also for recreational use.
Supporting the idea of legalizing marijuana, Gold suggested that it would provide the Golden State with a new source of tax, which could be used for providing drug & alcohol counseling as well as education.
Speaking on the topic in a recent interview, "My position is it needs to be legalized. Colorado is already beginning to prove to everybody that there is a sufficient tax base."
When asked California's attorney general, Kamala Harris, about Gold's comment on pot legalization, her campaign spokesperson said that she believed that the question pot legalization was an evolving issue that required that the state to monitor what is happening in other states like Colorado. The spokesperson added that the question should eventually be up to a vote of the people.
An increasing number of Americans are supporting marijuana legalization. Currently, only Colorado and Washington allow pot sales, which are seriously taxed and regulated.
During the interview, Gold also supported capital punishment/death penalty in specific cases. He stressed that he would limit capital punishment to rapists, kidnappers and cop killers who kill their prey.
