Republicans criticize Obama for his ‘ill-timed’ fundraising trips
President Obama yesterday arrived in Los Angeles to attend another party fundraising event, Republicans and even some of his fellow Democrats have questioned the timing of his fundraising visits.
Rep. Kevin McCarthy, a Republican from Bakersfield, is one of the senior leaders who have criticized Obama's latest westward trip. Kevin argued that Obama's trip was ill-timed given persistent problems like California drought and international issues like Gaza and Ukraine emergencies and influx of Central American refugees.
Criticizing Obama, McCarthy said, "Even when President Obama is on the road, he's more concerned with raising money than dealing with America's problems or international crises."
Earlier this week, Obama headlined Democratic fundraisers in Seattle and the San Francisco Bay Area. The most recent fundraising event in Los Angeles followed another big-donor event in the city and a policy talk at a southland community college.
Obama's visit to the city also troubled some commuters as authorities closed some of the roads and streets for the president's visit.
California has been a major fundraiser for both republicans and Democrats, and Obama has made frequent trips to the state for raising funds for his party. During the 2012 elections, the Golden State alone generated almost 20 per cent of total funs for the Democratic Party.
