Pinterest releases workforce diversity figures
On Thursday, social sharing site Pinterest released its workforce diversity report, revealing the gender and ethnicity breakdown among the company's total workforce of 300 employees.
The workforce diversity numbers released by Pinterest clearly show that the company is dominated by `male' and `white' or `Asian' employees.
Specifically speaking, going by the workforce demographic figures shared by Pinterest, 60 percent of the company's workforce comprises `male' employees; with women accounting for only 40 percent of the Pinterest workforce.
Furthermore, Pinterest has reported that 50 percent of its employees are white; and 42 percent are Asian. Hispanics and African-Americans account for merely 2 percent and 1 percent of Pinterest's employees respectively; with 5 percent of the company's workforce having been classified as `Other' employees.
With diversity noticeably lacking in Pinterest workforce, the company's software engineer and technology chief Tracy Chou said in a Thursday blog post: "Today we're taking our latest step by giving a more holistic look at our demographics across the company. We're not close to where we want to be, but we're working on it."
