WhatsApp hit by service outage for some users on New Year’s Eve
According to reports, Facebook-owned WhatsApp messaging service suffered an outage on Thursday, causing delays in the New Year Eve’s messages sent by users to their friends and family.
As per reports, connection issues with the WhatsApp service were witnessed by a number of users from all across the world. The problem did not affect all WhatsApp users -- the service currently has 900 million users worldwide -- though reports about connection issues came from different parts of the world, including the US, Canada, Europe and even South Africa.
Complaining about the intermittent unavailability of the WhatsApp service on Thursday, several users of the WhatsApp mobile apps said that the connection issues witnessed by the service were infuriating because of the resultant delay in sending New Year’s Eve messages to others.
Going by a News 24 report, some WhatsApp users initially thought that their inability to send New Year’s Eve messages was a result of some problem with either their handsets of their mobile networks. However, a WhatsApp spokesperson later confirmed the service outage.
The spokesperson told News 24: “Some people have had trouble accessing WhatsApp for a short period today [Thursday]; we’re working to restore service back to 100% for everyone.”
