WhatsApp service outage for some users on New Year’s Eve
Facebook’s popular messaging service WhatsApp suffered an outage on Thursday, and remained erratically unavailable for a number of users for several hours. As a result of the WhatsApp service outage, New Year’s Eve messages for the affected users were delayed.
Problems with the WhatsApp service were first spotted at around 10 a.m. Pacific on Thursday, when some users found that they could either not send messages at all, or there was a delay in sending the messages which started to go through.
Initially, it appeared that he mentioned problems with the WhatsApp messaging service were apparently a malfunction; but, later, an increasing number of WhatsApp users -- from all across the world -- started complaining about an inability to send messages.
Though the outage did not affect all of the nearly 900 million global users of WhatsApp, certain websites like Down Detector revealed that WhatsApp users in some regions were apparently hit harder by the service outage than others.
The cause of the WhatsApp service outage has not been officially disclosed. However, in an update at 5:56 p.m. Pacific on Thursday, WhatsApp said that its service had been fully restored for all users; and added: “We apologize for the inconvenience and wish everyone a happy new year.”
