Elon Musk: Tesla will have an autonomous car within two years
In a recent interview with Fortune, electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Motors’ CEO Elon Musk projected that his company will apparently boast an autonomous car in the next two years.
The somewhat bold prediction which Musk recently made with regard to Tesla’s autonomous-car timeline indicates that the automaker’s self-driving technology will likely fall in line with its planned launch of Model 3, the company’s forthcoming lower-priced electric car.
According to the information shared by Musk with Fortune, Tesla will eventually “end up with complete autonomy” in its vehicles; and “will have complete autonomy in approximately two years.”
Asserting that Tesla already has “all the pieces” related to autonomous vehicle technology, Musk told Fortune that the company now has to just refine those pieces and effectively put them in place.
Musk further added that Tesla will apparently be “done” with its autonomous vehicle efforts once it has ensured that all its “pieces” pertaining to self-driving technology have the capability to work across a huge number of environments.
Meanwhile, in connection with Tesla’s efforts in the autonomous-vehicle arena, Musk had previously said in a November post on Twitter microblogging platform that Tesla has made "generalized full autonomy" a "super high priority."
