Samsung unveils new ‘ruggedized’ Galaxy S6 Active handset

Bigwig South Korean device manufacturer Samsung has unveiled a new ‘ruggedized’ version of its flagship Galaxy S6 handset.

The launch of the new Galaxy S6 version -- called ‘Galaxy S6 Active’ -- comes a few months after the release of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge handsets by Samsung. The new Samsung Galaxy S6 Active handset will be an AT&T-exclusive smartphone.

According to reports, the key features and hardware of the new ‘ruggedized’ Galaxy S6 Active handset are almost similar to those of the standard version of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S6 handset. However, all the software and hardware features of the Galaxy S6 Active are wrapped in a shock- and water-resistant casing.

Going by the early tests and reviews of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active handset, the device apparently boasts superlative performance; and, thanks to its rugged construction, has excellent endurance.

To test the resistance of the Galaxy S6 Active handset, the Unbox Therapy channel used the device as a hockey puck stand-in, for extended lengths of time. The channel recently posted a YouTube video showing the results of the unique resistance test of the Galaxy S6 Active handset. The results showed that the bulky, impact-absorbing body of the handset enabled it to remarkably withstand a punishing time on ice for nearly one hour of full-contact skating.
