Honda releases in-depth specifications for Clarity Fuel Cell

In a recent announcement, bigwig automaker Honda has revealed in-depth specifications for its Clarity Fuel Cell, which the automaker hopes to start manufacturing in the first quarter of 2016. The cost of the Clarity Fuel Cell in Japan will be 7.6 million yen.

The Clarity Fuel Cell – which was previously called the FCV Concept – was unveiled by Honda in Tokyo this week.

According to the details shared by Honda, the Clarity Fuel Cell will measure 4895mm x 1875mm x 1475mm in length, width and height respectively. The powerful electric motor of the car will be capable of producing 130kW and 300Nm. The smaller fuel cell stack, at 3.1kW/L output density, will produce 100kW of power at maximum output.

As per Honda, the reduced size of the fuel cell stack – the device which converts hydrogen and air to water in exchange for an electric charge that is storable in the lithium-ion battery of the car – has resulted in significantly more luggage space. In fact, Honda claims that the Clarity Fuel Cell’s luggage space is biggest among the commercially produced fuel cell vehicles.

Meanwhile, about the availability of the Clarity Fuel Cell, Honda said that vehicle – which will initially be aimed at government and fleet operators in Japan – will likely hit the Japanese market in March 2016; and will subsequently be launched in the US and Europe. The vehicle will be available in three color options --- Crystal Black Pearl, White Orchid Pearl, and Premium Brilliant Garnet Metallic.
