Facebook’s male employees worldwide will get 4-month paternity leave from Jan 2016

Social network Facebook has revealed in a recent announcement that, from next year, it will increase the period of paid paternity leave offered to its full-time male employees across the world.

The announcement implies that paternity leave available to male employees in Facebook’s global offices will, from 2016, be the same as that available to their counterparts in the US.

Till now, the paid paternity leave available to new fathers at Facebook’s offices worldwide was four weeks. That period of paternity leave will be increased to four months, with effect from January 2016.

Facebook’s full-time male employees in the US already get four months of paternity leave, as do the company’s women employees in its global offices. In fact, Facebook grants more than four months of maternity leave to its women employees in global offices in some countries which mandate a longer leave to new mothers.

The increase in the period of paid paternity leave for Facebook’s international employees is a noteworthy move by the company which currently has a global workforce of 12,000 full-time employees at its 34 offices worldwide. Paid paternity leave can be availed by Facebook’s full-time male employees within one year of the birth of their child.
