‘Dead or Alive Xtreme 3’ to be launched only in Japan; not in West
In a significant decision related to the imminent release of ‘Dead or Alive Xtreme 3,’ the game’s developer Team Ninja and publisher Koei Tecmo plan to launch the game only in Japan; with no intention, as of now, to launch the game in international markets.
‘Dead or Alive Xtreme 3’ game -- in which gamers play volleyball as scantily-dressed women -- will soon be available in Japan, for Sony’s PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PS Vita gaming consoles.
Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo have ruled out the possibility of the release of the ‘Dead or Alive Xtreme 3’ game in the US or Europe markets. The decision is apparently rooted in the apprehension that the game’s character designs will probably be criticized in Western markets.
Against the backdrop of the fact that the ‘Dead or Alive Xtreme 3’ game continues its “tradition” of showcasing the feminine form erotically, the publisher Koei Tecmo has said in a recent comment on Facebook that it prefers that the game should not be launched outside Japan.
Koei Tecmo fears a possible backlash from Westerns audiences over the depiction of women in the latest installment of ‘Dead or Alive’ game franchise. The publisher’s concerns especially stem from the fact that the ‘Dead or Alive Xtreme 3’ version features a sun-tanning system and butt fights; and it also gives the gamers the ability to dress the game’s female characters in a wide range of costumes.
