Leica reportedly plans to launch rugged underwater camera
According to an indication from a leaked photo published by Leica Rumors, German camera manufacturer Leica is apparently set to launch a new waterproof Leica X digital camera called Leica X-U (Typ 113), with 'U' apparently standing for 'underwater.'
The forthcoming Leica X-U (Typ 113) camera will mark Leica's foray into the rugged underwater camera market. Going by the Leica Rumors report, the new Leica camera is set to hit the markets by the end of 2015; with the expected cost of the camera still not known as yet.
The leaked photo published by Leica Rumors hints at the specifications of the new Leica X-U (Typ 113) camera, which will not only be waterproof, but also shockproof. As per the rumored specifications, camera will be waterproof down to 15m/49ft; and shockproof from drops of up to 1.22 meters or 4 feet.
In addition, some of the other noteworthy features of the Leica X-U (Typ 113) camera include a 35mm f/1.7 lens with a manual focus ring; and "anti-skidding rubber armoring" for providing a strong grip and adequate protection.
Moreover, the leaked photo also hints at a rather unusual design element Leica X-U (Typ 113) camera --- that is, the positioning of the built in flash on the front of the camera's fixed lens instead of the camera's body.
