Apple adds new ‘Categories’ section to Apple TV App Store

On Wednesday, tech giant Apple announced the addition of a new section to its Apple TV App Store. The new section is called ‘Categories,’ and its rollout comes close on the heels of the launch of another new Apple TV App Store section – Top Charts – on Monday.

The new ‘Categories’ section shows up in the top navigation bar of Apple’s new tvOS online marketplace for the upgraded Apple TV set-top box. The rollout of the new section is essentially aimed at offering a more streamlined app browsing experience to customers.

As a result of the launch of the new ‘Categories’ section to the Apple TV App Store, the browsing mechanism for customers has become more efficient, as compared to the previous method of sifting through Apple's selection of Featured apps or using the tedious search tool.

The overall functionality of the new ‘Categories’ section added to the Apple TV App Store is basically be similar to that of the iOS App Store --- it gives viewers the ability to browse available apps by genre. However, as of now, the app offerings are restricted only to ‘Games’ and ‘Entertainment,’ which are the two popular categories which are dominating the Apple TV App Store charts.

Apple is expected to add more genre selections to the ‘Categories’ section in the near future, when more apps are submitted by developers. The additional genre selections for the Apple TV App Store’s new ‘categories’ section will be similar to those offered by Apple on the iOS and Mac App Stores.
