German Transport Minister to discuss VW emissions scandal with US counterpart
According to a Reuters report citing the information forwarded by two unidentified sources at the German Transport Ministry, discussions about the Volkswagen (VW) diesel emissions scandal will be held between German Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt and his US counterpart, Anthony Foxx.
Going by the details shared by the German Transport Ministry sources with Reuters, Dobrindt will travel to Washington on Monday to talk about the VW emissions scandal with Foxx.
The sources have also told Reuters that, along with discussing the VW emissions scam with Foxx, Dobrindt will also hold talks about the issue with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which first brought the scandal to light a few weeks back.
The EPA had found, last month, that bigwig German automaker VW had rigged the diesel emissions tests in the US. The company had installed the so-called ‘defeat device’ software on its diesel vehicles to cheat the US diesel emission tests.
VW admitted last month that a total of its 11 million diesel cars and light commercial vehicles worldwide are equipped with a diesel motor line – called the EA 189 – which had the illegal ‘defeat device’ software.
