Runkeeper updates its iOS app with support for Apple Watch
In a Thursday announcement, Runkeeper has revealed that it has updated its iOS app to bring on support for the Apple Watch smartwatch.
The newly-updated Runkeeper for iOS version 6.2 -- which essentially underscores Runkeeper designed for iPhone with Apple Watch support -- is now available for free at the App Store.
According to the details shared by Runkeeper in its update release notes, the company’s new Apple Watch app gives the users the ability to “run without your phone and still track with Runkeeper.” In other words, the users of Runkeeper’s new Apple Watch app can keep their iPhones in their pocket – or even at home – while running, and use their Apple Watch instead.
With Runkeeper being a popular app for tracking workouts, the new Apple Watch app will enable users to keep track of the distance they have run and the time taken for the running, along with monitoring their pace and heart rate.
However, as per an Engadget report, one of the main drawbacks of Runkeeper’s Apple Watch app is that the users of the app miss out on a significant Runkeeper benefit when they leave their iPhones at home --- they cannot track their route on a map because the Apple Watch lacks the GPS capability.
