Blocks launches Kickstarter campaign for ‘modular smartwatch’
UK-based startup Blocks has launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for a ‘modular smartwatch’ concept. The Blocks modular smartwatch has been in development at the company for nearly two years, but it is still a prototype at this stage.
With the launch of Blocks’ Kickstarter campaign for the modular smartwatch, the company is hopeful that it will be able to get its concept to the market next year.
For funding the first round of manufacturing of its modular smartwatch, Blocks is targeting a total crowdfunding amount of $250,000 through its recently-launched Kickstarter campaign.
The backers of Block’s Kickstarter campaign for the modular smartwatch can pre-order the core Blocks watch face module – which can work as a standalone smartwatch – for $195, together with a basic watch strap. The core Blocks module, along with four additional modules, can be pre-ordered for $250.
Blocks has revealed that it plans to start the shipping of the modular smartwatches by May 2016, if it is able to raise the targeted $250,000 funding amount through the Kickstarter campaign. For manufacturing the modular smartwatch, Blocks has signed a partnership with Taiwanese device manufacturer Compal.
