Facebook is testing two new direct shopping features

In an announcement made on Monday, popular social network Facebook said that it is testing two new direct shopping features which give Facebook users the ability to make purchases from within its mobile apps.

The two new direct shopping features being tested by Facebook are Canvas and a Shopping feed under Favorites.

According to the details shared by Facebook, the experimental Canvas feature essentially turns the typical scrolling FB ads into immersive ads. As such, when Facebook users click on ads with the Canvas capability, a full-screen page is loaded. The users can directly select their choicest item variant/color and purchase it directly through the Facebook mobile app, without going to the seller's website.

Meanwhile, so far as the other experimental direct shopping features is concerned, Facebook has revealed that the addition of a Shopping feed under Favorites displays the merchandise of brands participating in Facebook’s September-launched Shop section.

The announcement by Facebook about its testing of two new direct shopping features implies that the social network apparently has efforts underway to advance further into the e-commerce arena and challenge Amazon.com’s retail offerings.
