Report: Periscope is building live streaming app for new Apple TV
According to a TechCrunch report, Twitter-owned live streaming app Periscope has started developing an app for Apple's revamped Apple TV version.
The disclosure implies that Periscope will probably be one of the first apps to be launched on the forthcoming new model of the Apple TV media player, which will likely be unveiled by Apple at its September 9 product launch event. The new Apple TV is expected to have its own App Store.
The live streaming app which Periscope is reportedly building for new Apple TV will essentially give the users the ability to watch livestreams on their TVs.
With the Periscope app for Apple TV facilitating the users in watching live streams in a group setting, it is apparent that the key focus of the app will be on the streaming service's core business -- that is, enabling users to view streaming video in real time.
Though the TechCrunch report has asserted that the "exact functionality" of the Periscope app for new Apple TV is unclear as of now, it has nonetheless stated that the app is "likely to be focused on watching streams." The report also noted: "Periscope made videos viewable on the web in June without the ability to broadcast, and the Apple TV app could work similarly."
