Son of 49ers’ former chief killed in Southern California boating crash
The son of a former chief of the 49ers died in a boating accident off Santa Catalina Island in Southern California in the early hours of Sunday morning, a U. S. Coast Guard spokesperson as well as the victim's family confirmed.
U. S. Coast Guard spokeswoman SondraKay Kneen announced that Michael Harris, son of former 49ers CEO Peter Harris, lost his life when his dinghy rammed into another boat at around 1:20 a. m. near Descanso Bay.
Mr. Harris also confirmed his son's accidental death in a post on social-networking site Facebook.
Confirming his son's death, Mr. Harris said, "Our son Michael died this morning while living his life as he did everyday, with kindness, friendship, love of family, caring for others, having fun, being a friend, and as one of the really good guys."
The victim's grieving father also said that his son was an avid basketball player, and was embarking on a career in psychology.
There were four people in the dinghy, including Michael's girlfriend Kelly Wells. The other three received multiple injuries. All of the injured were immediately flown to UCLA Medical Center, where one is being treated for a head injury and two are being treated for minor injuries.
