ComScore: Facebook Messenger is second most popular app in US
According to a new report released by analytics firm comScore on Thursday, the Facebook Messenger messaging app is now the second-ranking app, in terms of popularity, in the US. The comScore list of popular apps in the US is topped by Facebook itself.
Going by the statistics released by comScore in its latest report, the Facebook Messenger app has, for the first time, passed ahead of the Google YouTube service; thereby bagging the second spot on the US list of popular apps.
In its disclosure hinting at the increasing usage of Facebook Messenger app, which was launched last summer, comScore said that that the Messenger app was – as of July 2015 – being used by 59.5 percent users of iPhone and Android-phone users at least once a month. In comparison, YouTube was being used by 59.3 percent iOS and Android smartphone users for the same period.
Overall, the new comScore report shows that the mobile app market in the US is being dominated by Facebook and Google.
Going by the comScore study, all but two of the top ten popular apps in the US are owned either by Facebook or by Google; with Facebook’s Instagram, Google Maps, and Gmail featuring on list of most popular apps.
