Xiaomi launches all-new India-specific handset --- Redmi 2 Prime
Chinese handset manufacturer Xiaomi has launched its all-new Redmi 2 Prime smartphone in the Indian market. The new Xiaomi handset, launched at a recent event in Visakhapatnam, is affordably priced at Rs 6,999.
The new Redmi 2 Prime handset from Xiaomi is the company’s first Mi handset which has been manufactured in India. The handset is essentially an improved version of the Redmi 2 smartphone; and it comes with first-rate specifications at an affordable cost.
Some of the most noteworthy features of the Redmi 2 prime handset include a 4.7-inch HD display; Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 64-bit processor; 2GB RAM; and 16GB onboard storage capacity; and 4G Dual SIM support.
For the launch of the India-specific new Redmi 2 Prime handset, Xiaomi has teamed up with Taiwanese tech giant Foxconn, which will assemble the handsets in India. The production of the handset has already commenced at Foxconn’s Sri City factory, Andhra Pradesh.
Since all the Redmi 2 Prime units sold in India will also be manufactured in India, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu said about Xiaomi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative: “We believe this partnership will provide new opportunities to youth of the state and develop an electronics manufacturing ecosystem of global standards in Andhra Pradesh.”
