Nokia unveils new 360-degree view camera – ‘OZO’
At an entertainment industry event held in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Finnish firm Nokia Technologies unveiled its new 360-degree view camera called 'OZO' --- a next-generation camera which has the capability to capture 360- degree video and audio.
The launch of the OZO 360-degree view camera by Nokia marks the company's foray into the virtual reality (VR) arena, as well as its return to the consumer market after the sale of its handset business to Microsoft last year.
Unveiling the orb-shaped OZO camera at the Tuesday event, Nokia said that the camera will be capable of recording stereoscopic 3D video and spatial audio through eight synchronized global shutter sensors and eight integrated microphones. Nokia also said that the content recorded by the OZO camera can be published to VR hardware, such as commercially available VR headsets.
Though Nokia has not divulged the expected cost of the OZO camera, it has said that the camera will likely start shipping in the fall.
Asserting that the OZO camera has been designed for professional content creators instead of consumers, Nokia Technologies' President Ramzi Haidamus said: "Ozo aims to advance the next wave of innovation in VR by putting powerful tools in the hands of professionals who will create amazing experiences for people around the world."
