Miramax studio exploring sale options

Santa Monica based film studio Miramax is exploring sale option according to sources familiar with the matter. The privately held studio is exploring other options as well. The studio owns the rights to many popular Hollywood movies.

According to a report published in Bloomberg, Miramax could be valued around $1 billion. The company was bought in 2010 by Qatar Holding and Colony Capital from Disney for $660 million.

Miramax has declined to comment on the news. Miramax was founded by Bob and Harvey Weinstein in 1979.

The studio had partnership in recent movies “The Wedding Ringer” and “Mr. Holmes”.

The current management is in talks with investment banks to sell off their stake in Miramax. Miramax owns rights to more than 700 movies including “No Country for Old Men”, “The English Patient” and “Chicago”.
