Woman shot & killed while walking with boyfriend in Hollywood
Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department are frantically searching for a suspect who allegedly shot and killed a woman near Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood late Sunday night.
Police said the victim, identified as 30-year-old Carrie Jean Melvin, was walking with her boyfriend shortly after 10 p.m., when a man with a shotgun walked up behind her and fatally shot her in the head.
Melvin, who lived in a close by apartment building on McAdden Place, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The boyfriend told investigators that he and his girlfriend had just left their apartment and that they were going to a restaurant. The shooter didn't take or snatch any items from the victim or her boyfriend.
Speaking about the deadly shooting, LAPD Det. John Skaggs said, "A killer is on the loose. We don't see any reason somebody would assault this woman or her companion. We're look at all leads, right now."
Skaggs added that many other people witnessed the shooting and provided information to police. But investigators were asking more witnesses to come forward and share any relevant information with the LAPD West Bureau Homicide.
The suspect, who fled the scene in a black car, was described as a male in his 20s. No arrests have thus far been made in connection with fatal shooting.
