California family survives weird encounter with dolphin
An attempt to watch dolphins in their natural habitat turned an unpleasant experience for a California family when a dolphin jumped into their boat and crashed into a woman, leaving her with broken ankles.
Dirk Frickman, his wife Chrissie Frickman and their two kids were enjoying natural marine habitat on June 21, which was Father's Day as well as the couple's 18th wedding anniversary. They were pleasantly cruising off the Orange County Coast on their 21-foot boat, when they spotted a playful group of dolphins.
One dolphin accidently jumped into the boat, and started slamming into the family members. It thrashed Chrissie and snapped both of her ankles. Her husband intervened and managed to pull her to safety.
Sharing the experience, Chrissie said, "I remember watching them jumping and thinking, 'Wow this is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.' It was almost like it fell out of the sky because it was so high."
Dirk Frickman said the 350-pound dolphin hit the boat's railing, came into the boat, and knocked his wife over. The marine mammal brushed the couple's daughter and just missed their son.
The dolphin also got injured in the incident. Blood was flowing from its nose and tail. The family managed to get the dolphin up to the dock and put it back into the water.
Chrissie was taken to a hospital, where she is till recovering from her injuries. The family said they're grateful to have survived the weird encounter with the dolphin.
