Comcast reportedly in talks with Deutsche Telekom about potential T-Mobile acquisition
According to a Reuters report, a German magazine - Manager Magazin - has revealed that US cable giant Comcast is apparently in talks with Deutsche Telekom in connection with the potential purchase of the company's T- Mobile US wireless carrier.
The Manager Magazin report, based on the information shared by unidentified sources, said that Deutsche Telekom has talks underway with multiple parties about T-Mobile. Though the company is yet to reach a decision, its management team seemingly has a preference for Comcast as a suitor because of the cable giant's strong financial position to handle a complete acquisition of T-Mobile.
In case Comcast is able to strike a deal with Deutsche Telekom, the bigwig cable company's takeover of T-Mobile will pave its way for a so-called "quadruple play." In other words, Comcast will be able to offer TV, Internet, mobile and wireline service; all in one package.
Moreover, Comcast's acquisition of T-Mobile will be beneficial for the cable company also because the buyout would include T-Mobile's more budget friendly wireless carrier MetroPCS.
As such, the acquisition of T-Mobile will enable Comcast to foray into the wireless arena which has thus far been an untapped segment for Comcast, even though the company has dominant stakes in the television and Internet media.
