Retirement Abodes Ranked, Arizona Occupies Three of the Top 5 Spots

The new ranking by Bankrate. com of the best places to retire ranks, Florida's Phoenix metropolitan area including Mesa and Scottsdale at the top as the location boasts of both, ample sunshine coupled with low taxes.
The top five ranked cities include three Arizona locations. The second spot has been taken by the Arlington-Alexandria area of Virginia while the third and fourth ranks are held by the Arizona cities of Prescott and Tucson respectively. At rank five is Des Moines, Iowa.
The worst place to retire is New York City followed by Little Rock in Arkansas, New Haven in Connecticut, Buffalo and New Jersey's Newark area.
A total of 172 cities have been ranked by Bankrate. com based on various parameters like weather, walkability, cost of living, crime rate, health care quality and taxes.
The 'senior well-being' parameter that measures satisfaction levels of surroundings from residents 65 and older, taken from the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index has also been taken into account while calculating the rankings.
Chris Kahn, Bankrate's research and statistics editor stated, "A lot of people think of the Sun Belt or the beach when they think of retirement. But there are a lot of great spots further north".
