Cablevision to offer Hulu's on-demand video service to Optimum Internet customers
On Tuesday, cable operator Cablevision Systems said that it has worked out a deal with Hulu to offer the subscription video-streaming service to the subscribers of the company’s Optimum Internet plans.
Announcing the agreement between the two companies, Cablevision said that it has become the first cable or satellite provider to strike a deal with Hulu for the distribution of Hulu's catalog of on-demand video content.
The terms of the agreement between Cablevision and Hulu have not been officially disclosed by either of the two companies.
The deal between Cablevision and Hulu is noteworthy, especially against the backdrop of the fact that, as a result of the ‘cut the cord’ move by subscribers, Cablevision has been losing cable customers to Internet services like Netflix and Hulu.
About the deal, Hulu said that its agreement with Cablevision will expand the reach of the Hulu subscription video-streaming service to a new audience of potential customer; while Cablevision’s Chief Operating Officer Kristin Dolan said that the team-up with Hulu “reflects Cablevision's desire to meet customers where they are.”
Dolan further added: "There is a new generation of consumers who access video through the Internet, and whatever their preference, Cablevision will facilitate a great content experience."
