Tanker Truck Explosion Blocks 710 Freeway
A tanker truck that crashed and exploded on Sunday afternoon blocked the 710 Freeway from both the directions in Bell.
As per authorities that were present at the site the tanker truck crashed at south of Atlantic Boulevard at 3:30 p. m. between Slauson Avenue and Bandini Boulevard.
They further told that the driver along with a passenger was pulling a double trailer. And suddenly the driver heard a popping sound and saw that the second trailer flipped over. The driver immediately puller over and the duo ran from the truck.
Officer Juan Galvan with California Highway Patrol (CHP), said, "He heard a loud pop. He looked in his rear view mirror and he saw that he either lost a tire or experienced a flat in his rear trailer. At that point, he saw that the trailer had overturned".
As per sources the tankers had almost 8,500 gallons of fuel in two tanks, but only one busted into flames. The smoke after the explosion was visible for miles, they said.
Los Angeles County Fire officials said there were no injuries reported from the incident. Firefighters used foam to put out the flames.
Capt. Keith Mora said firefighters had to pull and drag the fire hose across the northbound lanes over to the southbound lanes to put out the fire.
He said that they tried hard to stop the further spill of gasoline, so that the oil didn't spill further towards south.
The crew had to do the work quickly and efficiently because they also had a small area of brush or grass, about 100 feet that caught on fire he added.
CHP officers diverted southbound traffic at Bandini Boulevard and northbound traffic at Florence Avenue.
Drivers who were trapped in traffic due to the explosion said that the entire scene was terrifying.
