Twitter’s new initiative to combat abusive messages and threats to users
In a new initiative aimed at curbing online abuse, popular microblogging service Twitter has detailed a new strategy for dealing more effectively with abusive trolling. The new initiative by Twitter comes at a time when the service us at a potential risk of becoming a platform for the worst kind of hate and threats.
As part of its new initiative to fight abusive messages and threats to users, Twitter will lock abusive users out of their accounts.
According to the details shared by Twitter, the new initiative gives the company's Support team members the option of blocking users who are found to be sending abusive messages from their accounts for specific periods of time.
The users who are blocked by the Twitter Support team members will be allowed to use the service only after they have deleted certain abusive tweets.
In addition, under the new initiative to identify and limit the incentives for trolls to send abusive messages, Twitter will also update its violent threats policy. As a result of the update, the company's violent threats policy will include "threats of violence against others or promoting violence against others."
