Elon Musk reveals reason for SpaceX’s failed Falcon 9 landing
Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of private-sector space firm SpaceX, has revealed detailed reason for the company's recent failed Falcon 9 landing.
SapceX wants to use a rocket multiple times to drastically reduce various space missions. But a rocket can be reused only if it lands safely on Earth, without suffering any damages.
Thus far, the company has attempted three times to bring its rockets back and land them safely on Earth, but each time it missed the mark for one or another reason. Its latest failed Falcon landing occurred last Tuesday.
Revealing the reason for its latest failed attempt, Mr. Musk said in a tweet, "Cause of hard rocket landing confirmed as due to slower than expected throttle valve response."
In a second tweet, he wrote that Falcon apparently landed fine, but excess of lateral velocity caused it to tip over after landing.
The first failed attempt occurred in January, when the rocket's landing ended in a stunning explosion. The company failed for the second time in February, when the rocket splashed down a few meters away from the drone ship in the sea.
