Apple seeks patent for location-based "smart lock" system
According to report, US tech giant Apple has filed a patent application with the US Patent Trademark Office (USPTO) for a "smart lock" patent for a location-based system which can make adjustments to its security levels as well as other settings based on the location of the users.
The new patent which has been filed by Apple will spare the iPhone and iPad users the bother of manually tweaking their settings when they log on to different networks in different locations.
In its patent application filed with the USPTO, Apple said: "The security level and/or other device behavior, configurations, or settings on a mobile device can be modified based on the location of the mobile device."
The application further elaborates: "The location of the mobile device can be determined by analyzing location aspects present at a location, where any parameters or attributes of a location that can assist in identifying a particular location may be used as location aspects."
With the new Apple patent revealing that the 'smart lock' system helps a mobile device identify a user's location and accordingly modify the phone's settings, tech site T3. com said in an article the patent can potentially enable an iPhone to give a user access without seeking a passcode if it detects it is at the user's home.
