CHP probing disheveled woman’s beating by a patrolman

California Highway Patrol (CHP) has confirmed that it is looking into the incident in which a patrolman repeatedly punched a woman in the head during an argument on the side of a freeway earlier this week.

On Tuesday afternoon, a highway patrolman was filmed pummeling a disheveled woman on the 10 Freeway near La Brea Ave. the patrolman's inexcusable act was captured in a mobile phone by a passing motorist on the freeway.

Witnesses said the unnamed woman was drifting along a median next to the 10 Freeway on ramp when the patrolman approached her. The video showed that they struggle for a moment and ended up on the ground, with the patrolman straddling the woman.

David Diaz, who filmed the whole scene, said that the patrolman basically got on top of her, and punched her many times on her head with full force. One witness said the woman was missing her shoes and that she was not looking mentally fit. The witness added that the patrolman went too far.

The CHP released a statement saying they had watched the video and confirming that they were investigating the incident.

A spokesperson for the CHP said, "As a matter of policy, every time there is a use of force by our officers, there is a review conducted to determine whether the use of force was appropriate."

However, the spokesperson didn't disclose the identities of the patrolman and the woman.
