Giant blue whale overturns boat off California coast
A wildlife photographer, who was on a whale-watching trip in San Francisco, captured an incredible footage of a huge blue whale capsizing a boat off the coast of California.
Dale Frink said he was looking for whales twelve miles off the coast of the Golden State, when a nearly 80 feet-long blue whale emerged from the water and immediately overturned the boat on which he was watching whales.
Fortunately, the terrifying moment passed without injuring anybody. However, the boat's captain, Cici Sayer, was thrown overboard.
Sharing the incident, Frink said, "I was out whale watching today in San Diego when the boat I was a passenger on was overturned by a lunge-feeding blue whale. I was not driving and I was not in control of the Zodiac. Neither I nor the captain was hurt save for minor bruises."
The Captain of the boat, Cici Sayer, can be heard crying out in fear as well. The incident was captured by a GoPro camera. The 21-foot long boat started to sink, and both the photographer and the captain were tossed into the water. The photographer narrowly avoided falling into the whales' open mouth. They were rescued by a passing boat.
The photographer added that he could not emphasize enough that the Captain of the boat was doing her best not to get too close to whales in the sea, and that she was following proper procedure.
He further added that the stomach-churning incident was a freak accident that was very atypical for boats used for watching whales in the sea.
