Community Solar Gardens Gaining Popularity in US
A new concept in renewable energy has gained immense popularity in the United States in the recent times. As per the new concept, customers who find installation of solar panels expensive or impractical, can buy green energy.
The Community solar gardens started in Colorado a few years back. Now, the model has spread to Minnesota, California, Massachusetts and several other states.
It has been found that the capacity of solar gardens is expected to grow sharply this year, as the concept has been highly appreciated by both residential customers and large companies that want to reduce their carbon footprints.
The gardens feed electricity to the local power grid and customers can get the subscription to that power and can also get credits on their utility bills.
According to some developers, this move will help reduce the customer bills below regular rates within a period of few years.
David Amster-Olszewski, CEO of Denver-based solar garden developer SunShare LLC, said, "This is really the year that community solar becomes mainstream".
According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, rooftop solar panels are becoming quite popular among homeowners. But this market is limited to only about one-fourth of US residences.
