HBO and Apple TV could soon announce partnership for HBO’s streaming service
HBO and Apple could soon announce a partnership for inclusion of HBO’s streaming service on Apple TV, according to sources close to the deal. The new season of Game of Thrones will launch next month and HBO Now could be available for $15.
Starting April, viewers will be able to directly subscriber to HBO. The entertainment gaint will bypass satellite, TV distributors like Verizon or Comcast. HBO is banking on Roku, Xbox, Playstation, Apple TV and Amazon to sell subscriptions. CEO Jeff Bewkes is confident that HBO Now will be successful in generating good sales for 70 million cable TV subscribers who currently do not pay for HBO subscription.
HBO Now will target nearly 10 million consumers in the United States, who currently do not subscribe to cable TV bundle along with their broadband connection.
HBO Now will face tough competition from Netflix and Hulu as both are offering amazing content at lower price. HBO Now will have to offer quality content to consumers, in order to generate profit from its subscription network.
The pay TV providers have lost nearly 125,000 subscribers in 2014. HBO’s partnership with Apple TV could offer the company a new growth channel. Viewers have been eagerly waiting for streaming platform from HBO after HBO Chief Richard Plepler announced last fall that the company is looking forward to bring HBO out of traditional pay TV segment.
