Leonardo DiCaprio and Netflix announce partnership for documentaries
Netflix and Leonardo DiCaprio have partnered for a documentary and a series for exclusive premiere on Netflix platform. The documentary projects will mainly focus on environment and conservation. Leonardo DiCaprio will be producer or executive producer for the documentaries.
Announcing the partnership, Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer said, "This partnership is a natural extension of our incredible relationship with Leo on 'Virunga.'"
In a statement issued while announcing the partnership, DiCaprio said Virunga sparked a shared vision between him and the streaming service. Under the multi-year deal, DiCaprio and Netflix will identify fact-based projects and those will be produced by DiCaprio.
Netflix has content partnership with many celebrities and the current partnership will improve the content offering on the streaming service. DiCaprio has earned support as a philanthropist and environmental activist in the recent years.
This week, Netflix acquired worldwide rights for ‘Beasts of No Nation’ for $12 million.
