Mercedes officially unveils 2016 Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S Coupe 4Matic

At the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Sunday, bigwig German automaker Mercedes-Benz officially unveiled its new mid-sized crossover --- the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S Coupe 4Matic.

The new Mercedes GLE Coupe is chiefly aimed at people who desire a sporty Sport-Utility Vehicle (SUV) for their family. The crossover bears a striking resemblance to the racy, seven-year-old BMW X6 coupe-style SUV, which it is expected to challenge.

The new GLE Coupe has a sloping back, an inclined hood, prominent front air intakes, sleeker slides and 20-inch wheels. The crossover SUV boasts a powerful 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine under the hood; with 577 horsepower and 561 ft-lbs of torque. The vehicle is capable of accelerating from zero to 60 miles per hour in barely 4.2 seconds.

Mercedes plans to manufacture the new 2016 GLE Coupe at its Alabama plant. The SUV is scheduled to be launched in the US market in August this year; though its expected price has not been officially announced. The top-of-the-line model of the GLE Coupe will be the GLE 63 AMG, which will feature a 585-horsepower V8 engine.

About the new SUV, Mercedes’ Sales and Marketing chief Ola Kaellenius said: “The GLE Coupe is the trailblazer for a versatile vehicle class. It will enable us to win new customers.”
