Instagram passes Twitter with 300 million verified users
Instagram has reported than more than 300 million people use the app for sharing their photos with other users and followers on the network. In an official blog post, Instagram announced that the community members share over 70 million images and videos each day on the network.
San Francisco-based Instagram had announced 200 million users just nine months back. The network has surpassed Twitter in number of regular users. Instagram announced that users have shared over 30 billion images and videos till date on the network.
Instagram has witnessed massive growth in the last couple of years. The management is planning to launch verified account badges for celebrities, businesses and brands. Instagram launched account-highlighting people tab last month. The step has increased user engagement on the network. Instagram has also taken strict steps against spammer using the network. The management is planning to introduce additional checkpoints to improve the authenticity of the users on the network.
After the network was acquired by Facebook in 2012, Instagram has witnessed strong growth every quarter in userbase and the number of images shared by users.
In the official blog post, CEO Kevin Systrom said, "We're thrilled to watch this community thrive and witness the amazing connections people make over shared passions and journeys. Thank you for your passion, creativity and support over these past four years."
