Uber publicly discloses its privacy policy

Close on the heels of a female journalist's recent allegations that popular ride-sharing service Uber had tracked her travel records without permission, Uber publicly posted its privacy policy this week.

The journalist had accused Uber of tracking her whereabouts when she took an Uber car to the company's Long Island City office. Earlier, in a Forbes magazine report released last month, it was revealed that Uber's employees stalk VIP users with the help of an internal company tool dubbed 'God View.'

Uber's move to disclose its privacy policy publicly is clearly a consequence of the fact that Uber's alleged practice of tracking the travel records of its customers has triggered privacy-related concerns from consumers as well as lawmakers.

As per reports, Uber had not publicly disclosed its privacy policy, despite the fact that the ride-sharing service gets access to the supposedly 'sensitive' information about customers, including their precise location history and credit card numbers.

However, in its recent disclosure about its privacy policy, Uber has asserted that it has "a strict policy prohibiting all employees at every level from accessing a rider or driver's data." The company also added that employees will be allowed to access data only for "legitimate business purposes," such as facilitating payments and fraud monitoring.
