Search for Two Maryland Sisters missing since 1975 started again

On Tuesday, law enforcement officials started again the search for two Maryland sisters missing since 1975.

According to law enforcement officials, they are very close to finding out who is responsible for the vanishing of two young sisters from Maryland about 40 years ago.

On March 25, 1975, sisters Katherine Lyon, 10, and 12-year-old Sheila Lyon disappeared from a mall in Wheaton, Maryland. They had gone to have lunch at a shopping mall near their home and they were last noticed walking down a nearby street.

Police from Montgomery County, Maryland, which is right outside Washington D.C., are searching the Taylor's Mountain area of Bedford County, near Thaxton. In February, Montgomery County Police said that they had found a convicted child sex offender, Lloyd Lee Welch in a Delaware prison as a person of interest in the case. Welch is not planned to be released until 2026 and at the time of the Lyon sisters' disappearance, he was living near Hyattsville, Md.

According to WTTG-TV reports, on Tuesday, the property officials searched was once owned by relatives of Welch in Bedford County. Montgomery County Police told WTTG that since last week officials had been in the area "looking for evidence and gathering information that may indicate that Welch had a connection to the girls' disappearance".

While identifying Welch as a person of interest, police said that viewers had seen him at the mall on the day when the girls disappeared. He resembles the sketch of a possible suspect police put out shortly after the sisters disappeared. But according to the authorities, they don't have sufficient proof to charge him in link with the girls' disappearance.
