One More Flight Diverted Over Reclining Seat Issue
A Frenchman on an American Airlines flight is facing federal charges after misbehaving with crew member over reclining seat so much that it caused a flight between Miami to Paris to be diverted to Logan International Airport, Boston, on Wednesday.
Edmund Alexandre became upset after a woman reclined the seat in front of him on the Miami-to-Paris flight on Wednesday night. Alexandre continued complain when the crew member tried to calm him down. He followed the crewman down the aisle and grabbed him by the arm. Then two undercover federal air marshals controlled him and handcuffed him, the U.S. attorney's office said.
The diverted plane landed at Boston's Logan airport around 10 p.m. Alexandre, 61, was arrested at the airport. No one was injured but he was taken to the hospital for treatment for pre-existing health issues. He informed authorities that he had high blood pressure and diabetes, according to federal prosecutors.
Alexandre was arraigned at the hospital on Thursday on charged of interfering with a flight crew, NBC reported. Prosecutors suggested $500 cash bail and judge approved his release on his own recognizance until December hearing.
It was second time this week that such an incident happened. On Sunday, a United Airlines flight 1462 was diverted to Chicago after two passengers argued over reclining a seat, the Associated Press reported. In the previous flight, both the passengers were removed from the plane and not permitted to re-board when the plane continued its journey, a United Airlines spokesperson told to ABC News.
An American Airlines spokesman told the AP that on Wednesday night other passengers on Flight 1462 continued on to Paris.
