Billionaire Carlos Slim targets Latino-Empowerment
Mexican Billionaire Carlos Slim told community leaders that improving the credit access to Latino-owned companies will help them grown and expand in the United States and in the Latin American markets. He added that increased earnings for Latino community will improve their social and economic status.
Addressing the annual conference of Catholic Association of Latino Leaders in Houston, Slim stressed that there is dire need to improve the earnings and social status of Latino community. He added that some organization should be setup to help small and medium-size Latino-owned businesses.
Slim also repeated his controversial statement of three-day work week. While elaborating his idea, Slim said that with three-day week, people will have more time for their personal and family life. People will be able to work till 75 years of age and can work for longer hours for three days in a week.
As per U.S. census data, there are 53 million Hispanics living in the United States. Slim added that the Latino population in the United States is higher than their population in many Latin American countries. He stressed that the community which makes 17 percent of the U.S. population, should have better access to health care, education and funding for startup companies.
Slim foundation launched a website ‘Acceso Latino’ to help Latinos in the United States with easy access to education, job training, culture and heath care. Slim was ranked as the second richest person in the World by Forbes magazine.
